Like most young professionals, there was a time when I did the pay much a attention to my 401k accounts. Yes, I contributed and matched what my employer offered, but didn't think about it much past that. I didn't remember exactly what institutions held my accounts or what the active balances were. And, also like most young ones, I didn't stay at any given job for an extended period of time. I often got the two hear itch and moved on to bigger and better pastures. And with it, came new 401k accounts. Now in the role that I'm in, my sixth job, I decided to consolidate. Put simply, it's a major pain. Contacting all of the "old" account reps, establishing a new account, making the transfers...it's not hard, it just takes time. Which is a commodity we could all use more. What I'd like to do is offer a service where it could all be done for me. I securely provide my social and the names of my previous employers and everything is taken care of. Considering the value of those accounts, that service is probably worth $199. Or maybe $49 per account?
